Henry M. Busby enlisted in the United States Army on July 8, 1944, at Camp Shelby Mississippi. He served as a Private in the U.S. Army with the 274th Infantry Regiment, 70th Infantry Division Company C. As a part of the 274th Infantry Regiment, the troops landed in Marseilles, France in December of 1944. The 274th Infantry Regiment fought in France and Germany at places such as: Phillipsbourg, France, Wingen, France, Rothbach, France, the Siegfried Line, and Saarbrucken, Germany.
Unfortunately, Henry M. Busby was killed in action on February 18, 1945. According to an account by Charles Masters, member of 274th Infantry troop, they were attacking Saarland on February 17-18 of 1945. During that time, a shell hit outside the place the troops were sleeping in and eight men were killed and eight were wounded. Out of the 44 men within the Company, only 7 returned from the war.
